Dynamic creative optimisation
Dynamic creative optimisation is the ad platform automatically combining supplied creative assets, videos, images, headlines, descriptions, and learning which combinations perform for which audiences. Meta's Dynamic Creative and Advantage+ creative are the common implementations.

Why it matters
DCO shifts the work from choosing combinations to supplying good ingredients. It is genuinely effective at allocation, and genuinely unable to invent an argument you did not supply. Its ceiling is set by the diversity of what you gave it.
How to apply it
- Supply distinct videos rather than one video in several ratios. Ratios are formats, not ingredients.
- Give headlines that differ in claim, not in wording.
- Keep the number of assets manageable. Very large combination spaces spend a lot of budget learning.
- Read results per asset, not only per combination, so you learn which ingredient carried the win.
| DCO does | DCO does not |
|---|---|
| Allocate budget between combinations | Invent a new creative angle |
| Find audience and creative pairings | Fix a weak offer |
| Reduce manual ad set sprawl | Replace creative production |
| Adapt as fatigue sets in | Prevent fatigue |
What people get wrong
- Feeding it near-duplicates and concluding that DCO does not work.
- Reading only combination-level results, which hides which asset actually drove performance.
- Using DCO as a reason to produce less creative. It consumes more, not less.
- Launching a huge asset matrix on a small budget, so nothing exits the learning phase.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between DCO and A/B testing?
A/B testing isolates one variable to learn something. DCO optimises for outcomes without necessarily telling you why. Most accounts want both: structured tests to learn, DCO to allocate.
Does DCO replace creative testing?
No. It allocates between what you supply. If everything you supply makes the same argument, DCO will find the best version of that argument and nothing better.
How many assets should I give DCO?
Enough diversity to matter, few enough to exit learning: commonly 8 to 20 distinct videos with a handful of headline variants, sized to your budget.
