Ad fatigue calculator
Creative fatigue arrives as a function of exposure, so it is predictable from budget, audience size and placement. This calculator estimates your weekly frequency and the date your set is likely to start losing hook rate, so you can produce the replacement before it costs you money.

The formula
Daily frequency = (spend / CPM) x 1,000 / audience reached
Days to fatigue = frequency ceiling / daily frequency on the leading creative
Two things stop this being a simple division. You never reach a whole audience, so the denominator is the share you actually touch. And delivery does not split evenly across a live set: the platform pushes budget at whatever is winning, so the leading creative takes roughly 45 percent of delivery however many are live. That is the one that fatigues first, which is why a set can look healthy on average while its best ad is already dying.
The ceiling is how much frequency one creative absorbs before hook rate visibly softens. Our 2026 fatigue benchmark publishes 2.5 for Meta feed and Reels and about 3.0 for TikTok. Shorts and app install are not in the report; this calculator uses 3.0 and 1.5 for them as planning estimates, and app install in particular varies more by network than any published figure would suggest.
How to read the result
- The output is a planning date, not a prediction. Use it to schedule production, then confirm with your actual hook rate trend.
- If the answer is under a week, more creative alone will not keep up. Widen the audience as well.
- The last row tells you the set size that would make a three week cycle sustainable, which is a comfortable cadence for most teams.
- Frequency per creative is the number to watch, not campaign frequency.
What people get wrong
- Waiting for cost per result to rise. By then the fatigue has already been paid for.
- Counting aspect ratio exports as distinct creatives, which inflates the set size in this calculation.
- Refreshing with cosmetic edits, which does not reset the audience's habituation to the claim.
- Assuming a strong performer lasts longer. It accumulates exposure faster, so it usually lasts less.
Frequently asked questions
When does ad fatigue start?
When cumulative frequency per creative passes roughly 2 to 3, depending on placement. That arrives faster with a larger budget or a smaller audience, which is why the same creative can last a month in one account and five days in another.
How do I calculate ad fatigue?
Estimate daily frequency as spend divided by CPM times 1,000, divided by audience size. Divide the placement's frequency allowance by frequency per creative per day to get days to fatigue.
Can more creative prevent fatigue?
It spreads exposure across more ads, which delays it. It cannot prevent it, because the audience still accumulates impressions.
