Two vertical frames of different proportions, each with its safe area marked

Meta Advantage+ creative adapts and allocates the assets you upload: it adjusts framing per placement, applies visual enhancements, picks which of your text options to show which person, and shifts delivery toward whatever combination is working. It does not invent. It will not write a new hook, restructure your edit, film a shot you did not supply or make one mediocre asset behave like a varied set. That boundary is the whole thing to understand, because every disappointing Advantage+ result we have looked at came from an asset set too thin for the automation to have anything to choose between.

What Advantage+ creative changes automatically

The enhancement toggles sit at the ad level in Ads Manager, and Meta adds, renames and retires them regularly, so treat any published list including this one as a snapshot. The categories have stayed stable even as the names move.

What it does Roughly how Where it stops
Adapts framing per placement Crops, pads or repositions your asset to fit each surface It is cropping what you gave it, so a 4:5 asset in Reels is still a 4:5 asset
Visual enhancements Brightness, contrast, image templates, added motion or music on some formats Cannot recompose a shot or move a subject out of the safe zone
Text combination selection Picks among the primary texts, headlines and descriptions you entered Cannot write a new claim, only choose between yours
Relocates text elements Moves copy between the frame and Meta's own blocks on some placements Cannot rescue copy you burnt into the video itself
Per-person asset selection Serves a different asset or combination to different users Only from your uploaded set
Budget allocation across assets Shifts delivery toward what performs It is not a test, allocation is deliberately not random

The one to be careful with is the first. Automatic framing keeps an ad eligible across placements, which is useful, and it is not a substitute for exporting the right ratio. A 4:5 asset cropped into a 9:16 slot gives you an ad that renders, which is not the same as one that works.

Separate three things that share the name. Advantage+ creative is the enhancements applied to an ad. Advantage+ shopping campaigns and Advantage+ catalogue ads are campaign structures with their own audience and placement automation. Turning on enhancements does not put you in an Advantage+ campaign, and being in one does not mean your creative is improved.

What Advantage+ creative cannot do

It cannot originate a message. Everything the system serves is a rearrangement of what you supplied, so if none of your three primary texts states the actual reason someone buys, no combination of them will either.

It cannot fix pacing or structure. Where the offer lands, how fast the edit moves, whether the first second earns the next two: none of that is reachable by an enhancement toggle. Those are edit decisions, and they are the decisions that move hook rate.

It cannot manufacture diversity. Five colour grades of one edit give the optimiser one thing to choose, and it will still report per-asset numbers, which is how teams convince themselves the automation is working.

It cannot give you a clean causal read, and it is not trying to. Our note on dynamic creative optimisation covers that distinction. Allocation chases cheap conversions, so a losing asset may never have been served enough to fail properly.

And it will not save an ad that was wrong before upload. Enhancements are a few percent at the margin. Creative concept is the rest.

What asset diversity actually means here

The requirement is not a count, it is a spread. What the automation needs is assets that differ in ways that change who responds.

Supply these, in rough priority order:

  • Two to four genuinely different hooks. Different opening claim, different first shot, not the same shot with different text.
  • Native exports per ratio, at minimum 9:16 and 4:5, so automatic framing has less work to do.
  • Three to five primary texts that make different arguments, not three rewordings of one. Price, speed, proof and objection-handling are four different arguments.
  • Two or three headlines that pair sensibly with any of those texts, because you do not control which combination a person sees.
  • Captions burnt in and inside the placement margins, since enhancements will not reposition text that is part of the video.

Eight to 20 live variations is a workable size for an active campaign, and our definition of an ad variation is deliberately strict: a version built to test a specific difference, not a re-export. If you cannot say in one sentence what a given asset is asking, it is adding noise to the allocation rather than options.

There is a floor. On a small budget a wide asset set spreads delivery so thin that nothing accumulates readable data, and three assets with a faster refresh is the better trade.

How to read per-asset results without fooling yourself

Meta will show you a breakdown by image, video and text asset. It is useful, but not in the way most people use it.

Do not rank on it. The numbers reflect what delivery chose to serve to whom, and that choice was made to find cheap conversions rather than to compare your assets fairly. An asset with a strong CPA may simply have been given the easiest audience.

Use it for elimination instead. The signal worth acting on is the asset that got almost no delivery: the system found it unattractive early, usually because the hook did not hold. That is a real verdict even though it is not a fair test.

Then check hook rate per video asset, the metric enhancements barely touch. Median hook rate sits around 28 percent on both Meta Reels and Meta feed, and median video CTR runs about 1.78 percent on Reels and 1.62 percent on feed. An asset well below those with delivery behind it has an opening problem, and no toggle fixes that.

Watch frequency alongside all of it. Our 2026 fatigue benchmark, a synthesis of published platform and agency figures, puts the start of decline at a weekly frequency around 2.5 on Meta prospecting, with week three landing 45 to 70 percent below the launch baseline and most creative effectively dead inside three weeks. Advantage+ reallocating budget between tired assets looks like optimisation and is actually a slower decline. When every asset in the set is fatigued, allocation has nowhere good to go, and the fix is new assets rather than new settings.

If you want a genuine causal answer about which hook wins, run it as a structured test with the enhancements off, get the answer, then turn them back on for the winner. Mixing the two and expecting a clean read is the most common mistake we see.

What we supply to it

Disclosure: Genyad is our product, aimed at the input side of this. It works from footage you already own, transcribes and tags every clip, then builds each variation as its own script, shot selection, voiceover, caption set and export rather than a re-cut of one timeline. That matters here because Advantage+ needs assets differing in hook and structure, and re-cuts inherit both. Every variation exports in 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 and 16:9, so automatic framing has less to correct. The Meta ad creative generator page shows the flow, and the free plan is five variations without a card.

What it does not do: no AI avatars, no static banner formats, no product-feed or CSV template rendering, no predicted performance scores, and no publishing to Meta, so uploading the set and setting the toggles is still your job. We also do not generate primary text and headline options for you, so the text side of asset diversity stays with your copywriter.

Frequently asked questions

What does Meta Advantage+ creative actually change?

It adapts your asset to each placement by cropping or padding, applies visual enhancements such as brightness, contrast, templates, music or added motion, chooses which of your primary texts and headlines to show each person, and shifts budget toward the combinations that perform. Everything it serves is built from assets and copy you uploaded. The exact enhancement list changes, so read the toggles in your own account.

Should Advantage+ creative enhancements be turned on?

Usually yes for live campaigns, and off while you are running a structured creative test. Enhancements are worth a few percent at the margin and they keep an ad eligible across more placements. They also make per-asset results harder to read, which is fine when you are buying and a problem when you are learning.

How many assets does Advantage+ creative need?

Eight to 20 live variations suits most active campaigns, but the spread matters more than the count: two to four different hooks, native 9:16 and 4:5 exports, and three to five primary texts making genuinely different arguments. Small budgets are the exception, since a wide set spreads delivery too thin to read.

Can Advantage+ creative fix underperforming creative?

No. It reallocates and adjusts, it does not originate, so it cannot write a better hook, change where your offer lands or add a message your footage does not contain. When every asset in a set is fatigued, reallocation only slows the decline, and our benchmark report puts most creative effectively dead within three weeks regardless.
